Der Loewe xx (060029744) 1944-1973

Brown, 15.3hh (159cm)

Performance Record:

Der Loewe xx achieved great success on the racetrack for the Rottgen Stud and was described as a 'true fighter'. He started his stud duties for the Hanoverian Verband at Grossenworden in 1951.

Breeding Record:

Der Loewe xx was one of the most successful thoroughbreds introduced to 'modernise' the Hanoverian breed. It is easy to underestimate the importance of this stallion. The vitality his progeny inherited from their sire is legendary. What was initially believed to be 'difficult' was later recognised to be 'sensitivity to noise' for these otherwise excellent horses.

'Performance' was ultimately the deciding factor. Der Loewe xx presented such excellent horses as Ljostro 2 (Karin Schluter), Lowenherz 7 (Erika Schwarzkopf), Lanthan (Carola Lampe), Lady Lou (Holger & Inge Schmezer), Leoparding 2 (Hans-Jurgen Armburst), Lucky Boy 4 (Marjolym Greeve) and Leopardi (John Whinnet). In jumping, Hartwig Steenken had numerous successes with Der Lord 2 and Loriot 17, whereas in 3-day eventing, Nils Haagensen had great triumphs with Lowenstern. His son Lugano I produced horses for dressage and showjumping at the highest International standard.

Der Loewe xx is more or less disseminated by Lugano II today. Lugano II produced the black Lombard, a capital performance multiplier whose sons Lanthan and Leubus enjoy great esteem. Der Loewe xx full sister Leibwache xx later produced the Orator xx son Lions xx for the Celle Stud. Der Loewe's skeleton can be seen at the Verden horse museum to remind generations of breeders of the significance of this small but yet so great thoroughbred.

The Donnerhall-Pik Bube-Der Loewe xx combination is extremely sought after by the dressage fraternity as this line has continuously proved to produce outstanding dressage horses.
